A location forecast, not an entire country
The 7-day panel uses point forecast data for the named point and coordinates. Where alternatives are available, use the place selector to compare them. A city here is a forecast reference point, not a separate city page. Large countries, islands, coasts and mountain ranges have substantial local variation. The radar remains a wider regional view.
Reading temperature and precipitation charts
Rain bars add non-overlapping forecast periods within each UTC day. We do not count both the hourly total and the overlapping six-hour total. Faded bars identify less than 24 hours of rain coverage, including a partial first day. The temperature chart uses available point samples and interval minimum and maximum values; extremes between samples may be missed. Day cards and the expandable interval table provide the numerical values.
What the thunder label means
Thunder signal means at least one displayed interval includes a thunderstorm symbol or a positive thunder probability supplied by the provider. It is not a daily percentage, warning grade or count of lightning strikes. No thunder symbol means exactly that: the returned symbols do not include thunder. Thunder probabilities are not supplied globally for every forecast interval, so this label must never be read as zero risk.
Time, wind and uncertainty
The panel shows the model update time. Calendar days and interval times use UTC so that six-hour totals do not have to be divided into invented local-hour values. Wind is the highest available sampled sustained wind and its direction of origin, not a gust maximum or storm track. Forecast steps become coarser at longer lead times, and local detail is less certain.
Humidity, clouds, pressure and UV
Select a day to explore relative humidity, dew point, cloud cover and pressure reduced to sea level. The daily cards show ranges across available samples. The line chart preserves actual sample times, which become farther apart later in the forecast. Wind gusts and apparent temperature appear only when supplied. Clear-sky UV is a model estimate assuming cloud-free conditions, not cloud-adjusted exposure, and may cover only part of a day. None of these variables alone establishes a thunderstorm risk or an all-clear.
Probabilities belong to their forecast interval
Where available, the detailed table shows precipitation and thunder probabilities for the specific one-, six- or twelve-hour interval. Percentages are neither added nor converted into daily probabilities. Missing probabilities remain missing. We never infer a numerical thunder chance from rainfall, cloud cover, humidity or a symbol.
What the country seasonal guides mean
These editorial guides combine regional climate patterns with country-specific geography. Their four calendar periods explain common opportunities for convection, including wet and dry seasons where appropriate. They are not numerical lightning climatologies, measured monthly risk scores or predictions for the coming season. Countries with similar climates share explanatory patterns, while the local context identifies important differences within each country.
Place data and availability
Forecast place names and coordinates are selected from the GeoNames cities15000 export and rounded to four decimal places. GeoNames data is used under CC BY 4.0. Reference-point fallbacks are labelled. Weather data can be temporarily unavailable; the panel shows a clear message rather than invented values. A recently cached forecast is labelled if refresh fails, and data older than six hours is withheld. Always follow official warning services for current action.
Data credits and terms
The Data & sources page records the forecast provider, commercial-use terms, attribution, adaptations and place-data licence. Our WordPress integration caches the existing forecast response and reads the additional weather fields from it; exploring another chart does not cause a new request.
